About
Our math professional development is research-supported, teacher-affirming, and learner-focused.
Every educator we know has experienced traditional PD and understands that the typical “drive by” model doesn’t work to support you in being the agent of change we know you are. The ineffectiveness of traditional PD is supported by ample research, and instead we know that professional learning experiences should:
Model effective practices
Be active and collaborative
Provide coaching, feedback, reflection, and support
Focus on the ideas and ways of reasoning within an academic discipline
Be of sustained duration
We are committed to working with schools and districts that are serious about innovation, and we are dedicated to supporting educators in developing the knowledge and skills they need in order to leverage advanced pedagogy that generates deep knowledge. Our lab school, our decades of following education research, and our experience leading educators from around the world will provide a unique, collaborative experience for your school or district.
The [Co]lab is our flagship professional learning experience and serves as a starting point for many educators. But, you don’t have to start there. You might begin with our subscription-based, online learning platform for educators—Learning for the Long-View—which offers a living library of resources designed to support you in your growth as a teacher, learner, and mathematician. Also, Field Study Days and the [Co]lab Fundamental courses are open to educators with no previous experience The Number Lab.
“The Number Lab’s professional development is unlike any other PD I have attended. You don’t just leave with extra activity ideas, you leave with a transformed way of thinking about math. I highly recommend The Number Lab for any teachers who are interested in expanding the ways in which they think and talk about math conceptually with colleagues, but even more importantly with their students.”
