video playlists that rock

We video our lessons continuously. We also video our students at work.

Just like you, when we look back on the videos of lessons or any episodes within our classrooms, there are plenty of things that we wish had gone differently. We are always tempted to delete the video and start again. At the same time, we imagine there is something to learn from making our work transparent to one another as a potential source of conversation for you and your colleagues.

Inherent in the teaching culture of our lab school is the collecting of artifacts, including videos of kids explaining their thinking, collaborating with one another, or being involved in a discussion. We use these artifacts in two ways:

1) to assess our individual students on the quality of their thinking and their grasp of key concepts, and

2) as a means to peel back the layers of our instruction (i.e. what does each artifact tell us about our instruction?).

On this page, we’ve created a few playlists for you to spark conversation and to provide an opportunity for you to reflect on your own work.
