On-Site Immersive Study

The Number Lab team partners with schools to facilitate Math Block experiences with one or two groups of learners on their campuses. These experiences occur over the course of three to five days and can be an investigation of specific elements of the Math Block experience or a close examination of the intact experience. Immersive studies allow school faculty to: (1) observe the approach used to facilitate discussions, (2) assess learners’ responses, (3) recognize the way in which explicit coaching of the learners establishes and strengthens community, and (4) learn how standards are used in order to grow learners’ understandings of ideas. Teachers meet with The Number Lab team each day following the Math Blocks. During the meetings, teachers share their observations, questions, and wonderings. The entire three to five-day experience is captured on video and used by the school leaders to help facilitate the many discussions that occur following the Immersive Study.
