Kevin Moore

Kevin is an experienced educator of young learners as well as a respected instructional leader. Presently, Kevin's attention and energies are consumed by two ventures of which he is a Co-Founder, Long-View Micro-School and The Number Lab. Long-View Micro School is a STEM focused, highly innovative, learner-centered educational environment thoughtfully designed for upper elementary and middle-school-aged learners.  Through his work at Long-View, Kevin is committed to impacting the educational landscape locally by adding to the diversity of schooling options for families in Austin Texas. In his work with The Number Lab, Kevin helps to design and facilitate professional development seminars for teachers who provide mathematics instruction to young learners. These seminars are meant to help teachers strengthen their own conceptual understandings of mathematics and inspire a culture of learning in their classrooms that engages learners as mathematicians. Kevin’s work with The Number Lab connects him with educators throughout the United States and beyond.

Kaylie White

Kaylie White is an experienced educator at Long-View Learning, where she strives to transform mathematics education by working with both young learners and educators from across the country. Kaylie designs and leads learning experiences for young mathematicians at Long-View Micro School — a STEM-focused, highly innovative, learner-centered educational environment designed for upper elementary and middle-school-aged learners. Kaylie also works on The Number Lab team to create and facilitate professional development for teachers, including in-person workshops, Field Study Days at Long-View Micro School, and virtual coaching. She also leads the social media marketing for Long-View Learning. Kaylie is a bold, creative, and passionate educator who sees herself as a learner first. She eagerly works to collaborate with her team to continuously iterate and improve the learning experience for all.

Eric Mann

Eric Mann is an accomplished mathematics educator with experience as a classroom teacher, curriculum designer, division head, and writer. He has taught learners at all levels from elementary through college mathematics. His professional experience also includes mathematics content creation for Macmillan Learning and software engineering at NI. Eric wrote his first computer program (on a Commodore 64) around 1984, went to his first punk show in 1990, and earned his M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Tennessee Space Institute in 2004. Eric is a Mathematics Learning Leader at Long-View Micro School and works alongside the team at The Number Lab to lead transformational professional development for elementary and middle school math teachers.

 

Cathy Lewis

With more than 3 decades in education as both a teacher, math specialist, and curriculum writer, Cathy Lewis co-founded The Number Lab and Long-View Micro School. She creates and facilitates mathematics professional development for teachers, including in-person workshops, Field Study Days at Long-View Micro School, and virtual coaching. In tandem with colleague Kevin Moore, Cathy developed the Long-View Generative Framework for Mathematics, which provides educators with a map of the connected ideas used to integrate arithmetic and algebra. Cathy's expertise lies in her knowledge of structuring curricula that is learner-centered and ideas-focused, developing classroom practices that elicit strong number reasoning. She is passionate about transforming K-8 mathematics by providing educators with a mathematics experience that builds deep understanding of mathematical ideas, a positive identity, and strong number reasoning skills, while constantly leaning on practices that promote growth of critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. 

 

Lisa Zapalac

An education veteran with more than two decades served as a teacher, curriculum director, principal, and learning designer, Lisa Zapalac is co-founder of Long-View Micro School in Austin, Texas. Long-View educates 2nd–8th grade students and serves as a laboratory for teachers studying mathematics education, while also providing an optimistic example of new possibilities in education. Lisa’s experience includes leading high-quality instruction, managing growth, coaching teachers, and overseeing all aspects of school life. She’s interested in innovation in education, education entrepreneurship, student-centered learning, rigorous curricula, teacher education, and transforming K-8 mathematics. As part of the wider scope of Long-View Learning, Lisa serves as a consultant and regularly works with schools and educators across the world working to raise the quality of their mathematics instruction and ensure high levels of learning for young mathematicians. Lisa served the Austin community as Board President of Thinkery, Austin’s children’s museum focused on STEAM-based play, and President of Pease Park Conservancy, dedicated to the beautification of Austin’s central park. While Board President of Thinkery she managed a CEO transition as the pandemic began, oversaw the museum during shutdowns and financial complexities due to the pandemic, and facilitated the start of the Thinkery preschool. While Board President of Pease Park Conservancy she oversaw a $16.5 million Capital Campaign for a revitalization of Kingsbury Commons, worked to mature board systems, and mentored the CEO.

 

Jenny Green Kujawa

Jenny Green Kujawa recently joined our team after being part of The Number Lab's professional development program for several years. She is currently a math content leader at Long-View Micro School in Austin, Texas, where she serves learners in elementary and middle school. Through The Number Lab, Jenny also works alongside teachers to grow their understanding of the discipline of mathematics and promote the benefits of learning communities. She sees herself as an education researcher, studying teaching and learning whether she is working with children or adults. She and her team work collaboratively to transform education across all areas, including mathematics. Jenny brings more than a decade of experience teaching in both public and private schools, serving elementary, middle, and high school learners in multiple content areas. She holds degrees in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences and Educational Leadership. When she's not in the classroom, Jenny can be found hiking with her husband and two children, working on her new saltwater aquarium, or reading about the history of space exploration.
